A man made rainforest trail.
Firstly, we need to develop an awareness of the value of the rainforests in the world. This can be done in different ways:
There are National Parks even in Australia that include a rainforest walk which gives people an opportunity to enjoy the rainforest and appreciate it. When people are more aware of the beauty and the value of the rainforest, they will be more willing to protect it and help in looking for other resources.
Alternatives for resources would be:
- Documentaries shown on TV to educate people about the rainforest and its people.
- Flyers and posters to make people aware of the need to protect the rainforest.
- Protected National Parks: Governments should declare endangered areas as National Parks and protect them from illegal logging. They should be supported by the rich nations, and heavy fines should discourage poaching and logging.
- Eco-Tourism: This involves opening up certain areas of the rainforest and allowing tourists to come and enjoy nature. To protect the privacy of the tribes, the areas have to be carefully selected, and there have to be rangers patrolling the area, making sure the forest stays clean and the tourists treat nature respectfully.

Alternatives for resources would be:
- Reforestation: this means we grow the trees we need for resources instead of cutting down the original forest. This already happens in some areas of the world, especially in Asia. Asia as a whole gained 1 million hectares of forest between 2000 and 2005. Tropical forest in El Salvador expanded more than 20% between 1992 and 2001. Based on these trends, one study projects that global forests will increase by 10%—an area the size of India—by 2050.
- Renewable energy resources: finding other ways to create electricity and replacing fuel with other environmentally friendly energy resources will decrease the need for the resources found in the rainforest. This is also happening already, and it will show positive results in the future.
